Effective October 16, 2026. This policy describes the HCC Professor Ratings extension and this project website.

What the extension reads

The extension reads instructor names and section markup on supported HCC internal class-search pages to place ratings alongside the correct sections. It does not collect your student identity, password, or enrollment schedule.

What goes to Rate My Professors

To retrieve profiles, ratings, and reviews, the extension sends professor names (including names entered in manual searches), the fixed HCC school identifier, professor profile identifiers, and pagination parameters directly to Rate My Professors. It does not send full portal HTML, portal URLs, student information, or class schedules. Requests omit cookies and referrers. Like any network service, Rate My Professors receives ordinary connection information such as your IP address.

Opening a profile link visits Rate My Professors in a normal browser tab. That site’s own privacy practices apply to those visits.

What stays on your device

Professor lookup names, public profile results, lookup timestamps, request cooldown information, and manually selected name/profile pairs are stored in local extension storage. They are not synced by this extension. Review and candidate-search caches are held in memory.

Matched and unrated results are cached for 24 hours; missing or ambiguous matches for one hour; incomplete lookups for ten minutes; and failures for one minute. Expired entries are ignored and pruned during subsequent lookups. Manual choices remain until reset or removed. Use “Reset match” to remove an individual choice. Uninstalling the extension clears its local storage.

No developer analytics or advertising

The extension has no developer-operated data collection server, advertising, or analytics. The developer does not receive your professor lookup requests or sell data obtained by the extension.

This website and support

This static website is hosted on GitHub Pages. It uses no analytics scripts, tracking pixels, or forms. GitHub may process connection information to serve the site under its own privacy statement. Downloads are served by GitHub Pages.

If you open a GitHub support issue, the information you submit is public. Do not include passwords, student IDs, or unredacted portal screenshots. See GitHub’s privacy statement.

Permissions

Access to supported HCC portal routes lets the extension read instructor names and insert ratings. Access to Rate My Professors lets it retrieve public profile information. The storage permission saves lookup results and your profile selections.
